Vera A. Wilhelm, PhD
As part of my long career in international development I have built a strong expertise in facilitating change while working in leadership positions with senior officials and leaders in multi-cultural, complex and fast-paced work environments, and as a multilingual trainer and coach.
My expertise in transition coaching was spurred partly by my experience of reinventing myself mid-career from a development economist leading projects, research and teams to managing the World Banks training program for operational staff. In 2018, after leaving the World Bank, I founded Cortea Coaching and Consulting. The term Cortea goes back to the Italian term of corteare which means to accompany someone in a life changing event.
My coaching supports clients who are striving but would rather be thriving in transition and seek joy and fulfillment in their next stage. Going through major life transitions, whether at a professional or personal level, requires awareness of who we are and how we want to be in the world. Transition and change can bring uncertainty and ambiguity which are often met with resistance.
As a coach, I am committed to accompany my clients in their journey, help them clarify and keep track of their goals and identify limiting beliefs that may get in the way of their personal fulfillment. With deep listening, insightful questions, somatic coaching techniques and humor I create a safe space for my clients to clarify their intentions, explore possibilities as well as blind spots, and integrate new behaviors as they transition to the next stage in their career or personal life.
I am accredited as a coach by the International Coach Federation and the Georgetown International Leadership Coaching Program and trained in embodied leadership coaching, and transition focused coaching. I work with a number of assessments including DISC, TKI, Strenghtfinder and Strengthscope. I bring expertise as a mental fitness coach, exploring the linkages between positive psychology, neuroscience and coaching. I completed a PhD and Masters degree in Economics at Cologne University and am fluent in German (native) and French.
